Official Translation of Birth Certificates

We provide official translations of birth certificates that are accepted in Australia and worldwide. Every birth certificate receives the same attention to detail as the day it was first issued.

NAATI-Certified Translation of Birth Certificates

If your birth certificate was issued in a language other than English, Australian authorities will require a NAATI‑certified translation before they can accept it. This applies to visa and immigration applications, citizenship, passports, school enrolments, and other formal applications requiring proof of identity.

A NAATI‑certified translation must include a formal declaration of accuracy, the translator’s full name, and their NAATI Practitioner Number. It should also display a digitally authenticated NAATI stamp or QR code. These digital features make the certification verifiable and confirm that the birth certificate translation has been genuinely completed by a NAATI‑certified translator.

Keep in mind: NAATI is an Australian certification. For applications in other countries, you may also need notarisation or an apostille.

Birth Certificate Translations Accepted by Immigration, Passport Office, and Universities

Step inside our office and you’ll see translators focused on one thing: birth certificates. They are the single most requested document we translate, and are often tied to important plans in our customers’ lives. We take that responsibility seriously. This is why every translation is reviewed, cross‑checked, and formatted to perfection before it leaves our offices.

Our customers typically use their birth certificate translations for applications with:

  • Department of Home Affairs – for visa, permanent residency, and citizenship
  • Australian Passport Office (DFAT) – for new passport applications and renewals
  • Universities – for admissions, enrolment, and qualification assessment

Birth Certificate Translation for Visa and Immigration

If you’re applying for a visa, permanent residency, or citizenship in Australia, your birth certificate is one of the key documents you’ll need to provide. When the certificate is not in English, the Department of Home Affairs requires you to submit an official English translation.

Translation Requirements from the Department of Home Affairs

Because birth certificates are used to confirm identity, family relationships, and eligibility for immigration, the Department of Home Affairs has strict rules about translations:

  • In Australia: Translations must be completed by a NAATI-certified translator.
  • Outside Australia: NAATI certification is not required. Translations may be accepted if the translator is officially recognised in their own country.
  • Submission: You must provide both the original birth certificate and its English translation with your application.

Tips for a Successful Birth Certificate Translation

A translation that mirrors the layout of the original certificate makes it easier for immigration officers to review. Some other tips include:

  • Translations must be word for word, with no omissions or summaries.
  • Names should match the spelling used in passports and other identity documents.
  • Dates must follow Australia’s day month year format.
  • Places of birth should use recognised geographic names.
  • Even small details, such as stamps, seals, and signatures, must be included.
